Petition Committee 2nd meeting of the year 2024.

Summary

In today’s meeting, the committee discussed and decided on the working quorum of the committee as 6 members. This was proposed by Madaveli Constituency Member Mohamed Shameez and seconded by North Dhidhdhoo Constituency Member Abdul Latheef Mohamed. Below are the vote details of the appointment.

The Committee unanimously decided on the Committee Working Quorum as 6 members.

 

Secondly, the Committee decided on the voting quorum of the Committee. Madaveli Constituency Member Mohamed Shameez proposed the voting quorum to be 7 members and North Henveyru Constituency member Ahmed Aifan seconded.


Vote: Working quorum for the summoned meetings and Voting quorum of the committee as 6 members.

The Committee unanimously passed the voting quorum of Committee as 7 members.

 

Thirdly, the Committee decided on the working quorum for the summoned meetings mentioned under s.163 of the Standing Order of 19th Majlis as 7 members. This was proposed by North Henveyru Constituency member Ahmed and seconded by Velidhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Abbas.


Vote: Working quorum for the summoned meetings as 7 members.

The Committee unanimously passed the working quorum for the summoned meetings mentioned under s.163 of the Standing Order of 19th Majlis as 7.

 

Furthermore, the members then decided on the Committee guidelines for the petitions submitted to the Committee.


1-     Guidelines for Processing Eligible Petitions Submitted to the Committee:

-    The committee members unanimously agreed to adhere to the procedures established during the 19th Majlis while deliberating on such petitions.


2.     Guidelines for Processing Ineligible Petitions Submitted to the Committee:

-    Velidhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Abbas proposed and North Hithadhoo Constituency Member Mohamed Sinan that the petitioner be given the opportunity to resubmit the petition if the requirements mentioned in s.233 and s.234 of the Standing Orders are not met.

-    Furthermore, a procedural shift was implemented, allowing petitioners to make necessary amendments after submitting their petition to the Majlis. This adjustment eliminates the need for the committee's secretariats to assist in meeting petition requirements.

-    In addition, the Committee decided to send a memo to the General Administration Department of the People's Majlis outlining the petition requirements to ensure that the department meets them before referring a petition to the Committee.
