20th Parliament's State-Owned Enterprises Committee's 2nd meeting for the year 2024

Summary

The first part of today's meeting was to discuss and take a decision on the rules to be followed in the committee. According to the draft paper presented to the committee by secretariat, if the committee's legal number has not been presented the committee will be cancelled after a wait of 15 minutes from the scheduled time. An amendment to this section to change the waiting time from 15 minutes to 10 minutes was proposed by Gamu Constituency member Yoosuf Nasheed, which was seconded by Faresmaathodaa Constituency member Ashraf Rasheed. This amendment was passed by the committee as no objection was made.

 

Subsequently, the white paper prepared by Anti-Corruption Commission to identify the visible changes in the registration system of private companies was decided to be shared to members through e-mail and to withdraw the matter out of the committee's status.

 

Then, the committee decided to get a latest update on the matter received from Housing Development Corporation mentioning the administrative challenges faced by the corporation due to the command of Anti-Corruption Commission to halt works of some projects through the letter number 123-ES/161/2023/11 (30th October 2023).

 

The proposal of Dhiggaru Constituency member Ahmed Nazim to set up sub-committees to study the status of state-owned companies, seconded by Maavashu Constituency member Ahmed Shakir was passed as there was no objection from the members presented. Also, the committee decided to meet with Privatization and Corporatization Board to discuss the monitoring system of state-owned companies as proposed by North Maafannu Constituency member Mohamed Nazim, seconded by Kinbidhoo Constituency member Ali Ashrag.
