Summary

In today’s meeting, the committee discussed some of the procedures to be followed in committee. In this regard the committee decided to keep the committee quorum unchanged as the parliamentary rules stipulate that the legal quorum of the committee should not be less than 1/3 (4 members) members of the committee. Then the committee decided on the voting quorum of the committee as 6 members. This was proposed by Galolhu North Constituency Member Mohamed Ibrahim and seconded by Huraa Constituency Member Anaara Naeem. The details of how members voted are given below.


Vote: Committee Working Quorum as 6 members

Total number of members : 11

Number of members present: 9

Voted Yes: 8

Voted against: 0

Abstain: 0

Required to Pass: 5

Result: Passed

 

Hence, the committee decided the voting quorum as 6 members


Secondly, the Committee decided on the working quorum for the summoned meetings mentioned under s.163 of the Standing Order of 19th Majlis as 4 members. This was proposed by Manadhoo Constituency member Husnee Mubaarik and seconded by Ihavandhoo Constituency Member Ahmed Naseer.


Vote: Working quorum for the summoned meetings of the committee as 4 members.

Result: Passed

 

Hence, the committee decided on the working quorum for summoned meetings as 4 members.


 

Subsequently, some of the procedures to be followed in the committee were unanimously decided by the members present in the committee.

Then the committee discussed ways in which the committee would carry out the works of the committee and decided to check whether regulations made by the ministries are in accordance with the relevant acts. It was decided to review the regulations under the Ministry of Education first. The committee also decided to prepare a work plan on how to review the regulations of other ministries and to discuss it in the next committee meeting.

Lasty the committee decided to send a letter to Attorney General’s Office to request for the details of the status of bills to be sent to the parliament under the Act no 6/2008 (General Regulations Act)
