Summary

Today as a first item on the agenda, the committee discussed the matter of approving the mandate changes to the Ministry of Gender, family and social services sent by the president as per article 116 (a) of the constitution.

Once the chair opened the floor, Central Fuvahmulah Constituency Member Ali Fazaad proposed to consider the matter outdated and to file it, noting that it was sent by the previous administration and the incumbent president had already sent the newly formed ministries based on their policies along with the mandate changes to the parliament for approval. It was seconded by Ihavandhoo Constituency Member Ahmed Naseer.

The voting details are as follows.

Vote: To consider that the mandate changes for the ministry of Gender, family and social services is an outdated issue and to file the case issue.

Hence, Members present in the meeting unanimously decided to consider that the mandate changes for the ministry of Gender, family and social services is an outdated issue and to file as such.

As the second item on the agenda, the committee reviewed the approval requests from the president for the new ministries and their mandates created on 17th November 2023, as per article 116 (a) of the constitution and the mandate change for three individual ministries on 4th January 2024, with the changes. The Chair opened the floor for members. Central Fuvahmulah Constituency Member Ali Fazaad proposed to approve the matter as sent by the government and it was seconded by West Henveyru Constituency Member Ali Ibrahim.

Vote: To approve the ministries created on 17th November and the mandate changes brought to 3 ministries on 4th January as sent by the government.

Hence, the majority of the members present in the committee decided to approve the new ministries created on 17th November 2023 and the mandate changes of three ministries sent with their changes sent by the president under the discretion given in the article 116 (a) of the constitution.

 

As the fourth item on the agenda, under miscellaneous, the committee discussed on the issue sent by the Human rights commission of the Maldives, regarding the labor relations authority for not sharing the requested information and lack of support. Since this issue was sent to two committees of the parliament (government oversight committee and Human rights and Gender committee), the committee decided to clarify if the Human rights and Gender committee has done any work, before proceeding any further.

As the fifth item on the agenda, the committee discussed the issue of delays in Faadhihpolhu state house building renovation submitted by Lh. Atoll council. Once the chair opened the floor for members, Felidhoo Constituency Member Adam Zahir proposed to send the issue letter to the Committee on Decentralization. It was seconded by Ihavandhoo Constituency Member Ahmed Naseer.

As the sixth item on the agenda, the committee discussed a letter sent by the Maldives National Party regarding the Ice plant in Th. Guraidhoo and the location of the power generators in that island. Once the Chair opened the floor, Central Fuvahmulah Constituency Member Ali Fazaad proposed to reply to the Maldives National party with the information received by the committee regarding the matter.

Hence, the majority of the members present in the committee decided to send a reply to the Maldives National Party for both the issues mentioned in their letter, based on the information received by the committee.

As the last item on the agenda, the committee discussed a letter sent by the Maldives National party stating that the former administration did not even start the developmental pledges they made to carryout in L. Atoll. Central Fuvahmulah Constituency Member Ali Fazaad proposed conclude the matter after sending a to reply to the Maldives National party stating that the administration changed and due to that there are major changes to the policies as well. It was seconded by South Mahchangolhi Constituency Member Musthafa Hussain.
