Committee Meeting - People's Majlis of Maldives

Summary

Today’s agenda was to meet with a team from the Transparency Maldives as per their request, to discuss their upcoming impact assessment of 4/93 (Environment protection and preservation act of the Maldives) and about climate governance in the Maldives. In this meeting, transparency Maldives discussed the need to update the outdated aspects of this act, shared the role they play in the environment and climate related matters both locally and internationally. During the meeting, the committee was briefed on the changes required to be made to the Environment Protection Act, climate governance and the challenges they face in their work.

And Transparency Maldives also expressed interest to work with the committee in climate related matters. The Committee Chairman accepted the invitation and gave assurance that the committee will support transparency Maldives in any matter within the committee’s mandate.
