The first item on today’s agenda was to review the matter referred by the President to appoint a member to the Elections Commission. When the floor was opened to decide on a deadline for the completion of this matter from the committee, Thulusdhoo Constituency Member Ibrahim Naseem proposed to set 28th October 2024 as the deadline to complete this matter. This proposal was seconded by West Henveyru Constituency Member Ali Ibrahim.

Next item on the agenda was to decide on the administrative panel to verify the eligibility of the nominee referred by the President to the Elections Commission. South Galolhu Constituency, Member Meekail Ahmed Nasym proposed the administrative panel to include Shahuzaadh Saeed (Legal Officer), Aishath Abdulla Hameed (Legal Officer) and Fathimath Nadha (Senior Committee Officer). This proposal was seconded by West Henveyru Constituency Member Ali Ibrahim.

Then the committee was opened for discussion to decide on a deadline to open for public comments. South Fuvamulah Constituency Member Ibrahim Hussain proposed to open for public comments till 14:00 hrs of 24th October 2024 and also proposed to conduct the interview on 28th October 2024. This proposal was seconded by West Henveyru Constituency Member Ali Ibrahim.

The second item on the agenda was to discuss and decide on the letters submitted to the committee. When the committee was opened for discussion regarding a letter received from the President’s Office on the issue of some news spread by registered and unregistered media, Kelaa Constituency Member Abdulla Shareef proposed to bring members of Maldives Broadcasting Commission and Maldives Media Council to a committee meeting and inquire about the issue. This proposal was seconded by Thulusdhoo Constituency Member Ibrahim Naseem.
Vote: To bring members of Maldives Broadcasting Commission and Maldives Media Council to a committee meeting and inquire about the issue of some news spread by registered and unregistered media

Next, the committee decided to share the attendance from 1st January 2024 to 30th April 2024 of the independent commission’s members to the official WhatsApp group of the committee.
Lastly, Thulusdhoo Constituency Member Ibrahim Naseem proposed on extending the deadline to 15th May 2025 for the committee to complete the work of the resolution moved by Baarashu Constituency Member Ibrahim Shujau to determine the views of the 20th Majlis on the increasing number of members of parliament every five years. This proposal was seconded by West Henveyru Constituency Member Ali Ibrahim.
