Summary
First on the agenda for today’s meeting was the appointment of the Committee chair and Deputy chair of the committee. Shabana Rasheed, Director General, presided over the selection process of committee's chairperson and vice chairperson.
Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau proposed to elect Central Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ali Fazad as the Chair of the Committee. It was seconded by Kendhikulhudhoo Constituency member Mohamed Afoo Hamid and passed unanimously.
Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau proposed to elect Eydhafushi Constituency member Ahmed Saleem as the Deputy Chair of the Committee. It was seconded by Kurendhoo Constituency member Mohamed Shamin Habeeb and passed unanimously.
Following the election, the Chair of the Committee, Central Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ali Fazad presided over and opened the floor to propose the working quorum and the quorum of the committee meetings in which the committee meets with people. Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau proposed to pass the working quorum of 12 members. It was seconded by Maamigili Constituency member Qasim Ibrahim and passed unanimously.
Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau also proposed to keep the same quorum for the meetings held by the committee with other people, which was seconded by Velidhoo Constituency member Mohamed Abbas and pass unanimously as well.
Next on the agenda was the finalizing deadline to complete the work of supplementary budget by the committee. Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau proposed, and Maamigili Constituency member Qasim Ibrahim seconded to complete the work of the supplementary budget today, 27th October 2024 and passed by the majority.
Furthermore, the committee discussed to formulate a schedule of the work of the committee and pass the supplementary budget. Maamigili Constituency member Qasim Ibrahim proposed against conducting a meeting with Minister of Finance due to the limitation of time, which was seconded by Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau and passed by the majority.
However, after further discussions among the members, Baarashu Constituency member Ibrahim Shujau proposed to conduct a meeting with Ministry of Finance, Maldives Monetary Authority and Auditor General’s Office on 28th October 2024, 14:00 hrs. Kurendhoo Constituency member Mohamed Shamin Habeeb seconded this proposal, and it was passed unanimously.
In addition, Hanimaadhoo Constituency Member Abdul Gafoor Moosa proposed and South Hulhumale’ Constituency member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed seconded to request Minister of Finance to present how the budget allocated for the year was incurred till date, during the above-mentioned meeting. However, the proposal was not passed by the committee.
Furthermore, as the above-mentioned meeting was scheduled for past the deadline the committee decided on prior, Baarashu Constituency Ibrahim Shujau proposed to revise the deadline and the new deadline as 28th October 2024. This proposal was seconded by Maamigili Constituency member Qasim Ibrahim and passed by the majority.
