Summary
In today's meeting, the committee reviewed the following issues sent to the committee on the 12th sitting of the 2025 1st session of the Parliament held on March 10, 2025.
- The issue sent by the President on the matter of appointment of the Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Huda Ali Shareef as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP).
- The issue sent by the President on the matter of appointment of the Ambassador to the United Kingdom Ms. Irtisham Adam as the non-resident ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain.
- The issue sent by the President on the matter of appointment of the Ambassador to the Republic of Singapore, Mr. Mohamed Luvez, as the Non-Resident Ambassador to New Zealand.
South Maafannu Constituency member Abdulla Rifau proposed to neither check the records nor to interview the appointee, as the appointee is already appointed as ambassador; henceforth, her records were checked previously and were also interviewed previously by the committee. And he proposed to set a deadline of March 19, 2025, for the completion of reviewing the issue sent by the President regarding the appointment of Permanent Representative. It was seconded by Vilingili Constituency Member Azim Abdul Azeez. The proposal was passed unanimously.
Next, Vilingili Constituency Member Azim Abdul Azeez proposed to neither check the records nor to interview the appointees, as all the appointees are already appointed for different positions as ambassadors; henceforth, their records were checked previously and were also interviewed previously by the committee. And he proposed to set a deadline of March 17, 2025, for the completion of reviewing the issues sent by the President regarding the appointment of non-resident ambassadors. It was seconded by South Fuvahmulah Constituency member Ibrahim Hussain. The proposal was passed unanimously.
