A parliamentary delegation led by Hon. President Mohamed Nasheed, MP, Speaker of the People’s Majlis, traveled to India today on an official visit.
Delegation is visiting India on an invitation from Chairman of Rajya Sabha, H.E Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, and Speaker of Lok Sabha, H.E Shri Om Birla. The purpose of the trip is to sign an Agreement of Cooperation between the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian parliament) and the People’s Majlis, in order to strengthen the relationship and provide training opportunities for Majlis secretariat staff.
During the visit, the delegation will visit the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in session, and the Speaker of the People’s Majlis will pay a courtesy call on Chairman of Rajya Sabha, H.E Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu and Speaker of Lok Sabha, H.E Shri Om Birla. Moreover, the delegation will visit the Constitutional Club of India and will participate in the award ceremony of India’s National Open Badminton Championship.
Furthermore, the Speaker of the People’s Majlis will pay a courtesy call on the Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly. The Speaker of the People’s Majlis will also pay a courtesy call Hon. Prime Minister of India.
The parliamentary delegation from the Maldives includes Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis Hon. Eva Abdulla, Hon. MP Ali Azim, Hon. MP Hassan Latheef, Hon. MP Ilyas Labeeb, Hon. MP Hussain Shaheem, Hon. MP Mohamed Aslam, Hon. MP Abdulla Riyaz, Secretary General of People’s Majlis Fathimath Niusha, and Counsel General Fathimath Filza.
