Hon. Mohamed Aslam MP, Speaker of the People’s Majlis has met with the Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament during his official visit to Sri Lanka.

In this meeting, Speaker of the People’s Majlis Hon. Mohamed Aslam thanked Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena for his invitation and highlighted the enduring friendship between the two countries. In addition, both the Speakers also expressed interest in continuing the training and exchange programs for staff of both Secretariates that have been paused because of Covid-19.

Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena also spoke highly of the historical and strong diplomatic relations between both nations and legislatures and ensured that changes in administrations will not affect these relations.

During the meeting, the Hon. Speaker also extended invitation to Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to visit the Maldives.

The Speaker of the People’s Majlis Hon. Mohamed Aslam has also met with Hon. Tharaka Balasuriya, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, the current Acting Foreign Minister. Discussions in this meeting highlighted the strong diplomatic relations between both countries and exploring avenues of further cooperation and collaboration that will benefit both the countries.
