Petitions Committee 3rd meeting of year 2020

09 Mar 2020 Number 3

Summary

In today's meeting, members discussed the proceedings of the petitions in the committee. Committee commenced with petition on preventing coastal erosion of B.Dharavandhoo. Since the concerns in the said petition can be addressed through the existing governmental policies, committee decided to request Ministry of Environment to address these issues and provide them with immediate assistance. Next, regarding the petition calling to take strict measures for child protection, committee decided to seek relevant information from Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services. Committee then assessed petition on the concerns of the prisoners of Asseyri jail. As the said petition is not consistent with the rules of the Standing Order of the People's Majlis, committee decided to request Maldives Correctional Service to send the petition back accordingly to the Standing Order of the house. Then, members looked into the petition urging to protect and provide fundamental rights of Fishermen (Yellowfin tuna/Bluefin tuna) and decided to request for the relevant information from Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture. Lastly, committee decided to meet with relevant institutions on petition calling to control the rents of the housing.
