Committee discussed to conduct a consultation workshop for tour operators, tour agencies, and related parties regarding development of a separate legal framework for tour operators and tour agencies in the Maldives as they are currently regulated by regulations issued by Ministry of Tourism emanated from Act no. 2/99 (Maldives Tourism Act) upon request from the Speaker. To ensure successful execution of the workshop, the committee decided to invite all tour operators and tour agencies in the Maldives to take part in the workshop and to invite Ministry of Tourism officials to take part in it. And also, committee decided to gather information from the ministry regarding difficulties in enforcing the existing regulation, challenges/ complaints by tour operators and tour agencies in the Maldives and any research work conducted about special legal framework for tour operators and tour agencies. Furthermore, committee discussed about the annual reports of Ministry of Tourism (2020) and Maldives Customs Services (2019). Committee decided to inform authorities to present their annual reports to the committee based on the key performance indicators sent by Auditor General’s Office and to invite auditor general’s office official to be present at those meetings as observers.
