Summary

Committee set 31st March 2021 as the deadline of completion of committee works of motion submitted parliament member for Hoarafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem, on the difficulties faced by operators of cafés and restaurants due to restrictions imposed about Covid-19. Committee decided to meet restaurant association of Maldives for further information. Committee highlighted that the difficulties were faced not only the operators of cafés and restaurants but also other small businesses such as taxi drivers and decided to meet Drivers association and minister of Transport regarding the issue. Committee reviewed letter sent by information commissioner office to take necessary measures to within the jurisdictions of parliament regarding ministry of tourism’s failure to provide information requested as per Right to information Act. Committee decided to inform information commissioner that in the Right to information act all the process of implementation of act is clearly mentioned especially the process to be followed by when an institution fails to comply with the Right to Information Act is very clear in the act. Committee discussed issue sent upon request by the Speaker’s to do a research on waive off given to fines during the years 2019 and 2020. Committee decided to get further information from Ministry of Finance on waive off given to fines during the years 2019 and 2020 and to get information from each ministry and SOEs separately if the ministry does not maintain such records. Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the freight forwarding issue submitted to the committee. Committee highlighted that though ministry had published a regulation regarding freight forwarding business activities, implementation of the regulation is not very effective. Before completing the committee works regarding this issue, committee decided to get further information regarding the implementation of the regulation and necessary measures taken by the ministry to resolve the issues faced in freight forwarding businesses.
