Committee discussed on Situation Assessment Report sent by the Ministry of Economic Development regarding the Development of Unemployment Insurance Benefit Program for the Maldives. After discussing on the report, committee decided to forward the recommendations of committee to Ministry of Economic Development. Recommendations highlighted; 1. To include first time job seekers and informally employed workers in the unemployment insurance programme; 2. Those registered at the job center (especially those between the ages of 50 and 65) spend a long period of unemployment and it is important that such persons are able to find a solution under the programme; 3. To see if using the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme to finance the Unemployment Insurance Program is an option; 4. When introducing an unemployment insurance programme, it is important to establish clearly the rules and standards of the programme, such as how it is defined as unemployment for its purposes, conditions, registration policies at the job centre and the periods for which unemployment insurance can be provided.
