17th Meeting 2022

ޚުލާސާ

During today's meeting, information received from Addu City Council and the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure was discussed regarding the proposal submitted by Feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihad regarding the construction permission in Addu City. Since Section 148(t) of the Decentralization Act, 2010 empowers city councils to frame "regulations for permitting construction of houses" in the city councils, instead of asking them to implement a specific regulation, the ministry should leave it to the councils to formulate the regulations. Feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihad proposed to ask Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, while Dhiggaru MP Ikram Hasan supported the same. When the motion was put to vote, it was unanimously approved by the members present in the committee. The matter was then discussed on a petition filed by Dhiggaru MP Ikram Hasan seeking to study what can be done to make the salary of the person in charge of the post of acting secretary general of the councils a close salary of the Permanent Secretary General. Following the information sent by the Civil Service Commission, Dhiggaru MP Ikram Hasan proposed to ask the Civil Service Commission to increase the allowance given to the acting secretary-general of the councils in such a way that the total salary of the secretary-general of the councils does not exceed the salary of the Permanent Secretary General. When the motion was put to vote, it was unanimously approved by the members present in the committee. The members then discussed the information provided by the Members of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission regarding the amendments to the Rebroadcasting Regulations. The Committee decided to meet all stakeholders (local channels, Media Net, Ooredoo, Dhiraagu) related to the regulations. Further on the issue, while the committee is looking into the matter (Re-Broadcasting Act) and a resolution in this regard is being debated in the House, the committee decided to write to the speaker in this regard, so that the resolution may be available to this committee.
