At first the committee was to elect the chair and deputy chair of the committee. The work was carried out by Mr. Hussain Waheed, Assistant Director General, Legal Affairs. Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim proposed the name of Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir as the first proposal. As a second proposal, Hussain Shaheem of Henveiru South constituency proposed the name of Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam as the chair of the committee. Feydhoo MP Mohamed Nihad and Dhiggaru MP Ikram Hasan supported the proposal. However, fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj then backed the proposal proposed by Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim. Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam was elected as the chair of the committee with a majority of the members present in the committee (by a vote of 12 members). Later, Dhiggaru MP Ikram Hasan proposed the name of Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir, for the deputy speaker. South Hithadhoo MP Ibrahim Nazil supported the proposal. Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Ameer was elected as the deputy chairman of the committee by a majority of the members present in the committee. Later, members expressed their views on how to proceed with the matter in order to start the work of the committee.
