Summary

Committee unanimously decided to send the following committee decisions to the speaker of Majlis. 1. Formulate a criteria to identify high-risk families within 2 days. 2. Identification of families that fit to the criteria, with regard to the information collected from Maldives Police Service and Ministry of Gender, family and social services, and make a list of those within 7 days. 3. Identify high-risk families that are not brought to the attention of the state institutions through City councils and Island councils, and include those in the high-risk families list within 30 days and establish a system to monitor those families. 4. Ensure within a period of 30 days, if the perpetrators suspected of pedophilia who are at loose in the community are monitored by the Maldives Police Service. 5. Discuss with the relevant authorities about minimizing the investigation and trial period of sexual abuse cases on children. Prepare and share with this committee, a report within 30 days about the possible changes that need to be brought to the system and to the laws, in order to allocate a reasonable time period for those cases. 6. Conduct an audit of the child protection department employees within 30 days. 7. Establish a child protection database within 30 days, that can be used by the concerned authorities. Committee also decided to Send a letter of request to the Attorney General’s Office, to hasten the work of the witness protection bill and evidence protection bill.
