Committee on Economic Affairs 1st Meeting 2022

15 Feb 2022 Number 1

Summary

The first thing that was reviewed at the meeting was the resolution proposed by member of parliament for Horafushi constituency honorable Ahmed Saleem seeking to facilitate the service of cargo boats in Ihavandhippolhu. It was decided to continue the proceedings regarding the resolution after meeting related officials of the Ministry of Economic Development to clear up the information mentioned in the resolution. Next, the committee discussed the reports regarding the study conducted by the Ministry of Economic Development with the technical assistance of a foreign consultant to provide financial assistance to the unemployed. Noting that the committee had shared the findings with the Ministry of Economic Development after discussions on the second part of the Unemployment Insurance study, Situation Assessment report, prepared by the consultant, it was decided to inform the Ministry that committee will convey if there are any additional recommendation/amendment to any reports regarding the study. Lastly, the committee reviewed the letter sent by the North Huvadhoo Atoll Council. Since the letter was about discussions held between the council and the Speaker of the parliament regarding setting up a bunkering facility at Ekefaru, connected to G. Villingili, committee decided to proceed with this letter after clarifying the speaker's views on the issue.
