19th Parliament Committee on Information and Communication Technology

The committee was established at the 37th sitting of the 19th People's Majlis held on December 18, 2023, under Article 124-1 of the Rules of Procedure of the People's Majlis. Mandates of the committee include reviewing information and communication technology matters and submitting them to the People's Majlis if there are any changes required to information and communication technology policies and overseeing matters related to the National Center for Information Technology, the Communications Authority of the Maldives, and all other government agencies operating or established to operate public digital infrastructure and digital services at the national level, as well as other government agencies that plan or are required to plan and implement information and communication technology. The Rules of Procedure of the People's Majlis vests the committee with the power to meet with those institutions, collect information on their work, query, acquire information on the respective agencies, and make recommendations on improvements. The committee is also required to examine the annual reports of these agencies, identify areas for improvement, examine the issues submitted by these agencies, and advise on how to proceed. In addition, the committee reviews the bills related to the aforementioned institutions and submits a report for consideration to the Majlis.
