The Human Rights and Gender committee of the 20th Majlis was established on 3 June 2024 in the 2nd sitting of the 20th People's Majlis. As per Article 131 of the Standing Order, the committee is mandated to review, investigate, and provide recommendations in all matters relating to Human Rights, Gender Equality, and Children’s Rights. The Committee also has the mandate to oversee the work and review matters relating to Ministry of Social and Family Development, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Family Protection Authority, Children’s Ombudspersons Office, Department of Juvenile Justice, and other institutions relating to Human Rights, Gender Equality, Children’s Rights. The committee is also mandated to review matters relating to the appointment and dismissal of the Members of the Human Rights Commission and the Children’s Ombudsperson.
